Nothing. It’s the same technology but just referred to by many different names. It also goes by the more modernised name of a ‘Digital Twin‘, branded by Matterport itself. The brand of virtual tour you choose is the more important decision. Matterport has been the pioneer in 360 virtual tours for more than 15 years, leading the way in visual 360 innovation and creating a solid reliant user base in the Real Estate Industry.
A Matterport digital twin records an existing physical space as it appears when scanned. An architectural render illustrates a proposed design or space that may not yet exist (Off-The-Plan). A digital twin is useful for exploring current conditions, while ‘Visualisation Renders’ illustrate future possibilities. We can also assist you with Visualisation Renders and additionally turn them into a Matterport 360 tour, allowing you to use the same comfortable viewing technology. Here is an example of a visualisation render of an off-the-plan project that has been imported into the Matterport 360 virtual player technology:
A 360 virtual tour lets prospective buyers and tenants explore a property online at any time convenient to them, 24/7. It gives a better understanding of a property more than what photos alone can. A virtual tour helps bring property inspections to the people who cannot attend a physical inspection at times inconvenient for them. For real estate agents, it helps to prequalify prospects who have virtually inspected the property online and then wish to attend to see in person. Another positive for the agent is that it can also cut down on the total number of open homes required for the agent to attend.
Scanning time varies with the floor area, number of rooms and levels. A 360 scan is captured at several points within a room where a prospect would genuinely like to stand to visually inspect the room. There are also many other technical points we need to scan to collectively join the tour together and create the best possible quality dollhouse view. To give you an idea, a 1 or 2 bedroom unit can easily be captured within 30 minutes, while a 3-4 bed 2 storey home may take up to 1.5 hours.
The captured information then needs to be uploaded, processed, reviewed, and trimmed with some other post-processing work before the tour is ready to share. Generally ready by 9am the next day!
Yes—each format answers different questions and serves differently across multiple marketing channels. Professional real estate photography is your first point of contact on a property listing website. A 360 virtual tour lets people explore the connections between spaces. Virtual tours are part of the broader property-marketing service we supply to the real estate industry. What you may not understand is that if we capture the 360 virtual to a first we can export a floor plan for a fraction of the cost of measuring it up manually and also export an unlimited number of photos of any room at any angle free of charge.
Not to be confused with video, this is a uniquely different product that involves capturing your property space with a 360-degree camera and creating an online ‘virtual tour’ space for property buyers/renters to click & explore in the comfort of their own homes. An excellent product to capture a broader audience on top of traditional marketing. See our detailed product information page on Matterport 3D Virtual Tours which includes many examples across different marketing purposes.
A 360 virtual tour gives the viewer full control over where they look, with interactive elements like embedded content such as video, submission forms, additional pictures and URL links. There is even a measurement tool and statistical data! A property video follows an edited sequence chosen to present the property’s features and atmosphere. They serve complementary purposes: our real estate video production introduces the property, while an interactive tour allows people to investigate at their own pace.
Short Answer – No. A standard Matterport tour can be viewed through a standard internet browser on a computer, tablet or smartphone. Visitors can explore using a mouse or touch controls without a VR headset. However, if the viewer does want to get that ‘Fully Immersive Experience‘, then you can use a headset and select the headset icon displayed at the bottom of the screen in the Matterport Virtual Tour to activate it.
Your completed Matterport virtual tour is delivered as a simple URL link. It can then be copied and pasted into Real estate portals and accommodation platforms that support active URL content. You can also embed the virtual tour into your website using the exact same URL link or, alternatively, a shortcode to generate additional formatting options. Its link can also be included in emails and accessed through a QR code on printed marketing.
Removing sensitive material beforehand is the best starting point. However, Matterport does offer tools for blurring selected details like computer screens, family photos and wall artworks. Automatic face detection is also available to create automatic blurring of faces. Discuss privacy requirements before the appointment so preparation and review can be planned appropriately.
